Short Biography of Imam Ali Naghi (Hadi) AS
Imam Ali Naghi AS was born on 15th Dhul-Hijjah of the year 212 hijri, 5th March 828, in Medina in a region called Sorya.
Imam Naghi was raised up in Medina. He was 8 years old that his father was murdered and he became the next Imam. He lived in Medina till Jafar Al-Mutawakkil, an Abbasid caliph, summoned him to Samarra in the year 243 hijri / 858 CE.
The reason that Mutawakkil summoned him to Samarra, was that the ruler of Medina wrote to Mutawakkil that Imam’s popularity is increasing in Medina and Mecca, and the number of his devotees are overwhelming.
Imam Hadi AS was killed and poisoned by Al-Mu’tamid, Al-Mu’tazz’s brother and Mutawakkil’s son. He was killed during the reign of Al-Mutazz, in the year 254 hijri 868 CE. At the time of his death, only his son, Imam Hasan Askari AS was present. Imam Hadi was 43 years old at the time of death, and was buried in his own house.
